The filling is made from crushed Oreo cookies mixed with cream cheese, creating a soft, creamy texture with plenty of chocolate cookie flavor in every bite. The candy coating adds a crisp outer shell that contrasts perfectly with the smooth center.
White candy melts create the classic coating for these cake balls, giving them a sweet finish and polished look. If the melted coating feels too thick for dipping, a little heavy cream helps create a smoother consistency.
Chocolate chips can also be used instead of candy melts, though the flavor and texture will be slightly different. When melting chocolate chips, it’s important to heat them slowly in short intervals to prevent overheating or scorching.
These Oreo Cake Balls are perfect for parties, holiday trays, or anytime a simple no-bake treat is needed. Their rich flavor and bite-sized shape make them easy to serve and even easier to keep reaching for.

Oreo Cake Balls
These Oreo Cake Balls turn classic Oreo cookies into rich, bite-sized treats with a creamy center and a smooth candy coating. With no baking required and simple ingredients, they’re one of those easy dessert recipes that look impressive while being surprisingly simple to make.
Ingredients
- 24 Oreos
- 4 oz softened cream cheese
- 10 oz white candy melts (Ghirardelli brand)
- 2 tbsp heavy cream use only if Candy melts need to be thinned out
Instructions
- Place 24 whole Oreos into a food processor and blend on high speed until they become a coarse crumb mixture. Add the softened cream cheese and pulse again until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
- Remove the blades from the food processor, scraping any remaining mixture back into the bowl. Scoop out the Oreo mixture using a medium cookie scoop, then roll each portion into a ball with your hands. Place the balls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and freeze for 15 minutes.
- Add the white candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl and melt in 20-second intervals, stirring between each interval until smooth. If needed, thin the coating with a little hot cream or dipping aid chips. Ghirardelli candy melts usually do not need thinning.
- Dip each Oreo ball into the melted candy coating using a fork, allowing any excess coating to drip off. Transfer the coated balls back onto the parchment-lined baking sheet and let the coating set completely.
- Decorate with drizzled melted semi-sweet chocolate or crushed Oreos if desired. If using crushed Oreos, sprinkle them on while the coating is still wet so they stick properly.
Notes
- The easiest way to crush the Oreos for these cake balls is by pulsing them in a food processor until they turn into fine crumbs. If you do not have a food processor, place the Oreos in a zip-top bag and crush them with a rolling pin instead.
- Candy melts and chocolate chips have similar flavors, but they melt differently. If you prefer using chocolate chips, melt them in a microwave-safe bowl in 20-second intervals, stirring between each interval. Be careful not to overheat the chocolate, as it can easily scorch.
